by Donna Dewberry

Once you master the One Stroke™ technique of these simple tulips, you can fill your table with the pleasing blossoms, even during the long days of winter.

PREPARATION
Clean the surface with a mixture of water + vinegar (1:1). If necessary, trace and transfer the pattern.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS

Refer to the color worksheet  for step-by-step instructions.

Tulips: Doubleload the 3/4" flat with Black Cherry and Wicker White. Next, add a touch of Sunflower on the Wicker White Side.

Starting with the middle petal and working outward, paint the tulip.

To paint the brighter tulip, add a touch of Medium Yellow to the Sunflower side.

Stems & Leaves: Doubleload the 3/4" flat with Fresh Foliage and Thicket.

Using the chisel edge of the brush, touch base of flower with the Thicker side of the brush. Paint the base of the stem by pulling short strokes from the base of the flower.

Paint the leaves by starting on the chisel and pushing on the bristles, as you slide upward. Next, lift the pressure again to create a crease or a fold in the leaf.

Butterfly: Doubleload the #12 flat with Dioxazine Purple and Wicker White. With Wicker White to the outer edge, paint the wings.

Load the #2 script liner with inky Green Forest. Paint the body and antennae.

Allow to dry.

FINISHING

Finish with two or three coats of glass finish. Allow to dry between coats.
