Summertime is so much fun at my house! My little guy Evan is 21 months old and we spend most of our time outside. I was so excited to create for him his own little place outside to do all the things that he loves—read books, have picnics and draw pictures. I personalized this table just for him, and he and his friends have so much fun looking at the different kids!

PREPARATION
Wipe the entire plastic surface with rubbing alcohol before painting. This eliminates any static charges and the film that develops when plastic items are removed from the mold in which they are made.

With a soft brush, apply two thin coats of primer to the areas where the children and painting will be. Let the primer dry 10-15 minutes between coats, and 30 minutes before painting.

Adjust the pattern to the desired size for the surface. Using transfer paper and a stylus, transfer the pattern for the kids around the top of the table, repeating as needed. Transfer the large star to the back of each chair. Transfer several small stars onto the seat of each chair. Transfer the pattern for the words around the edge of the table.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
Faces: Mix White + Tangerine + Light Pink to get a flesh color. Paint all the faces and arms. Let dry.

Hair: Paint the children’s hair using the following colors:
Blond hair: Yellow
Dark Blond: Yellow + Brown
Brunette: Brown
Dark Brunette: Brown + Black
Redhead: Tangerine + Brown

Clothing: Base the kids’ clothing using any of the colors from the palette, referring to the photo for a guide.

Ice Cream Cones: Paint the cones using mostly White mixed with a little Brown. Paint the ice cream using White and White + Light Pink.

Flags: Paint the blue on the flag with French Blue. With the round brush, paint the stripes on the flag with Crimson.

CHAIRS
Paint the small stars on the seat of the chair with White. Basecoat the large stars with Yellow. Let dry.

In the center of each large star, base the area for the flag with White. When dry, base the blue area with French Blue. Paint the stripes with Crimson. Let dry for 24 hours.

DETAILS
Attach the fine tip to the top of the Black paint bottle, and squeeze a small amount of paint onto a piece of scrap paper. Next, loosely outline the designs and add details to the table and chairs. With the same tip, add the words to the edge of the table. Let dry.

With the #5 flat brush and Black, add the checks around the edge of the table. Let dry.

Using the #10 flat brush, paint the checks around the stars on the chairs. Paint the White checks first, then add Black in between. Let dry.

FINISHING
Allow the painting to thoroughly dry for at least 48 hours. When dry, use a soft brush and smooth strokes to cover the surface with sealer. When this coat is dry, add a second coat, brushing in the opposite direction.
